With version 7.5.0 on Debian 10 Buster I have suddenly a problem with the samba logfiles. I don't know why this files are created, but Logwatch cannot process it, see attached file.
The return code of -1 seems to come from the cat command. So the file might have existed, and then perhaps disappeared while it was being processed.
But the larger problem seems to be the number of logs. There are over 1500 log files for psenn alone, and many ham01 logs. So unless there are that many psenn hosts, I suspect that either logrotate (or the declarations in smb.conf) are generating many log files, without rotating and deleting the older log files properly.
So it would appear that the /var/log/samba directory needs to be cleaned up first, and check the logrotate (and perhaps smb.conf) configurations.

These files do not come from logrotate, but from samba itself. Some of them are created every minute, but not by every workstation.
Unfortunately, I don't know why these are created. This problem has only been present for two weeks, but I haven't changed anything in the Samba configuration in the last time. I just update the software packages regularly. The customer does not notice anything, i.e. he does not have any errors that occur suddenly.
I asked for advice on the Samba mailing list but unfortunately didn't get a workable one. So I managed to delete these weird files every hour. Well what else should I do?
I persuaded Logwatch to stop processing Samba log files. Thank you.
