Thanks for the patch. I'll note that some of these error messages being suppressed indicate a configuration problem, but the client access should fail (i.e., not a silent fail). That's the case for dovecot ("Plaintext authentication failed") and pureftpd ("Can't create directory: File exists" and "Sorry, cleartext sessions and weak ciphers not accepted on this server").
