Actually, its more of a push, but its kinda like that.  Basically, you tell 
your carrier how to login to your e-mail.  Then, every 15 minutes*, it checks 
your inbox and pushes new message to the phone.

* Some e-mail services have slightly better integration and the push happens 
somewhat immediately.
