Hello, I just bought a Blackberry bold (9780 bought in China where I am leaving) and I still don't know whether it's the best choice or the worst mistake. Hopefully, I discovered Logicmail and it is very convenient. I have a problem using Logicmail. When I download LogicMail (2.0.0.257 for BB6) it perfectly works : no remark, I greatly appreciate it, excellent IMAP synchronisation with my mail server. However, after a limited time, I got the message "unable to open connection". I check the configuration and all the connections (edge, Wifi). Besides, my browser still runs very well. Each time, I erase Logicmail, download it one more time, and then it works ... for a limited time. All suggestions to fix the problem are welcomed. Regards, |

I really don't think uninstalling/reinstalling could possibly have any effect at all on this issue. Just doing a battery-pull reset of the phone will likely have the exact same effect. But I have run into issues in the past where I can't open non-BIS network connections on my device. (Its been a long time since I've seen this, and I'm guessing it was actually T-Mobile's fault.) Usually waiting a while or resetting the phone clears it up. The browser runs over the BIS network infrastructure, and uses a completely different (and more reliable) approach to get online than apps like LogicMail. -Derek On 01/26/2011 12:05 AM, Hervé Philippe wrote: > Hello, > > I just bought a Blackberry bold (9780 bought in China where I am > leaving) and I still don't know whether it's the best choice or the > worst mistake. > Hopefully, I discovered Logicmail and it is very convenient. > > I have a problem using Logicmail. Thank you Derek or your quick answer. You are right, battery-pull reset of the phone has exactly the same effect. It is a big progress because now, I can restart logicmail at any time without any download (I still have to confirm this point because just one experience). I didn't try "waiting a while" because the main advantage of LogicMail in my daily activities is "immediate response" ; I cannot "wait". Do you have any advice to fix this problem ? For what it's worth, I only use LogicMail via WIFI connection, and I don't have any issues when connecting to the IMAP server. But I notice that after awhile, the connection is dropped, and a quick re-connect is inevitable. Does LogicMail keep the connection alive in the background when Internet is available? There were some issues with reopening a failed connection, which I fixed in 2.0.0.258. (I just linked that to the OTA page last night.) There are still some issues with keeping an IMAP connection open for a long period of time, since the IMAP IDLE handling currently does not work very well. (Issues with how I'm polling the socket, and what server replies I'm handling.) I'm actively working on fixing that, but its a lot of work, so it isn't finished yet. However, LogicMail 2.0 is not currently designed to stay running in the background for a long period of time. There are a lot of little things I need to do before that is a usable and reliable option. (Handling repeated disconnects/reconnects automatically, checking multiple folders periodically, better notifications, better memory management, etc.) I pushed some of the tasks to make that happen to 2.1. -Derek On 01/27/2011 02:26 AM, KwangErn Liew wrote: > For what it's worth, I only use LogicMail via WIFI connection, and I > don't have any issues when connecting to the IMAP server. > > But I notice that after awhile, the connection is dropped, and a quick > re-connect is inevitable. > > Does LogicMail keep the connection alive in the background when Internet > is available? > > > KwangErn > > > 2011/1/27 Hervé Philippe <her...@le... > <mailto:her...@le...>> > > Thank you Derek or your quick answer. > > You are right, battery-pull reset of the phone has exactly the same > effect.
