[Logicmail-users] feature requests

Hi

Thanks for fixing the signature position issue, I now have a few 
feature requests for Logicmail. (Most are just useful features in 
other clients.)

Transports
==========

1. Include all configured blackberry email accounts (and PIN message) 
as folders, allow replies to be sent using any account (SMTP or 
Blackberry).

(Locigmail doesn't work on BIS for me.)

2. Usenet access.

Text email display enhancements.
================================
(all as options)

a. colour and use a smaller font for quoted text. The colour dependant 
on the number of chevrons. eg. one chevron - blue, 2 chevrons - red, 3 
chevrons - cyan.

Similar to Thunderbird's quotecolors addon, (with background 
colouring, solid bars disabled)

b. grey out signature

c. auto scroll to first new text, (for when people forget to trim 
interleaved replies.)

Only quote selected text in replies, if nothing selected either 
(options);

 i; quote everything (as currently).

 ii; quote up to the sig separator, or the start of any trailing 
previously quoted messages

 iii; quote nothing


Display and Composition enhancements.
=====================================
(all as options)

Tidy chevrons; remove spaces from between quoting chevrons and remove 
chevrons from any blank lines

ie

"> > > Some text     "
"> > >               "
"> > > Some more text"

Becomes

">>> Some text     "
"                  "
">>> Some more text"

Delete multiple blank lines.

Also, read through the BlackBerry SDK license agreement (especially 
section 2b), to see what parts of these feature requests might cause 
violations that might anger RIM:

BIS, as in BIS-B network connections, or something else?
BIS-B (the network transport many RIM and 3rd party apps use for 
reliable connections) is another issue entirely.  RIM doesn't want to 
give access without approval, NDA, and being an "alliance partner".  But 
the "secret" is well known, and some open-source apps already get away 
with it, so I'm a little unsure how to proceed.

Isn't that a bridge too far for now?  Not sure I want to put in all the 
time and effort to also create a full-blown Usenet client.

P.S. I'm currently creating all Feature Request tickets against 2.1, but 
some may get pushed to 2.2 or 2.3 as I prioritize and start actually 
working on the most important 2.1 features.  The 2.0 release is a *huge* 
step for the application, and will form a stable foundation that makes 
most of these feature requests seem trivial in comparison.

I know things like the facebook app access the email folders (though 
they don't display them.)

I assume that logicmail works via APN then. I get BIS but not APN on 
the arrangement I use, so can just use the program on wifi.

Perhaps for version 3 then? I did wonder if it was a moon-on-stick 
type request.

I don't think it would be appropriate for HTML, anyway, except when 
converted to plain text.

That's how everything else does it. Without the proper sig separator, 
it is part of the message.

It would be nice in both, but it only practical on the message view, 
that would still be most useful.

I notice quote selected only is missing.

This would also be very useful for display of messages, since we have 
small screens.

Thanks for including them. The most important problem was the 
signature, that is now fixed.

The most useful one to me would be use of Blackberry mail folders and 
transports, since most of the time when I have wifi, I also have a 
computer with webmail.

However, since obviously it is quite a major enhancement, the more 
straightforward feature I would most like is to only quote selected 
text.

I'm curious about why you felt the need to quote the *entire* message 
message when making a dig about the message size.

Seems you sent an even larger message :)

Anyway, that gives me another idea to attempt to conserve bandwidth.

On send, if there is quoted text after the new text, offer the choices 
to delete the redundant text, continue editing or send anyway.
