The settings really are the same as what you'd be putting into Thunderbird. I just haven't provided side-by-side screenshots with arrows showing what goes to what. I do have a step-by-step on the website for setting things up, though. However, pretty much every e-mail client has separate Identity, Account, and Outgoing Server configurations. They just all find different (and confusing) ways of presenting them and organizing them. In terms of Thunderbird (describing in hopefully readable text), here's how it all maps: Tools -> Account Settings... Server Settings: Server Type => LM Account Protocol Server Name: => LM Account Server Security Settings -> Use Secure Connection: Never/SSL => LM Account SSL unchecked/checked Port => LM Account Port Username => LM Account Username Main settings -> Default Identity: Your Name => LM Identity Full name Email Address => LM Identity E-Mail address Reply-to Address => LM Identity Reply-To address Outgoing Server (SMTP) -> Edit: Server Name => LM Outgoing Server Use Secure connection: No/SSL => LM Outgoing SSL unchecked/checked Port => LM Outgoing Port Use name and password => LM Outgoing Authentication (probably None / PLAIN) User Name => LM Outgoing Username And of course each of these configuration sections in LogicMail gets a name, and you go back to the Account screen to select the other two for that account. But if you just want to read (and not send) messages, configuring the account along is enough. But the walkthrough on the project website shows step-by-step screenshots of all of it. There are only two gotchas you should know about: - The TCP APN settings on your device need to be configured properly. This setting is carrier-specific. Look at the FAQ page on the project website for details. - The "Use MDS Proxy" setting determines whether the connection goes through the BES network or direct from the device. It might be better to try first with it unchecked, but it might not make a difference. -Derek On Tue, 28 Jul 2009 14:43:47 +0100, tat ubu <ta...@go...> wrote: > I am setting up LogicMail on a BB8700 after failing to get access to the > email server at my hosted website using the BIS setup. > The account in question is accessible via desktop clients like > Thunderbird and Outlook, so I'm mystified as to why BIS hasn't worked, > but have given up on that and started hoping LogicMail will do the trick. > > My point here is that I'm not entirely sure what usernames, passwords > and server addresses I should be putting into the respective Identity, > Account, and Server settings. I am using logicmail to access another user enterprise mbox that the blackberry cannot synchronise through the BES - this to tell that i'm accessing it through MDS via a local IP. The connection works properly, also sending emails, what partially fails (without errors) is the list of the emails in the INBOX If it is set to list last 30 headers it misses some of them - i haven't counted them on the bb , but looking at them in front of the enterprise outlook i noticed it missed some of them eg. On the outlook there were 4 emails on 31st july whilst just 3 on the logicmail on the blackberry 8800 os 4.5 BES 4.1.6 What i'm worried is the rev3 of IMAP as on one of the debug examples was IMAPrev1 Pls. Help, did i miss some settings? If needed i'll try to produce some captures and telnet sessions. Also one question, when there will be compatibility with attachments, maybe just for saving them in native format and maybe open them with documents to go demo free with os 4.5 Thanks ____________________________ Di Venti Alberto Permira Associati S.p.A. I am setting up LogicMail on a BB8700 after failing to get access to the email server at my hosted website using the BIS setup. The account in question is accessible via desktop clients like Thunderbird and Outlook, so I'm mystified as to why BIS hasn't worked, but have given up on that and started hoping LogicMail will do the trick. My point here is that I'm not entirely sure what usernames, passwords and server addresses I should be putting into the respective Identity, Account, and Server settings. It would be great if the settings I use in T-bird were directly copyable to LogicMail. But they aren't, so I'm wondering how to go about testing the variables. Ideally there'd be some way of issuing a test command for each layer of configuration. In the absence of such a thing, is there some other way I can test the settings without having to try the config 12 times? David |

FYI, certificate settings are part of the BlackBerry OS itself, and something that LogicMail has absolutely no control over. When you get that error, it just means "I tried opening an SSL socket, and got an exception. I tried again, and it still failed." If this is indeed an SSL problem, I recommend looking into all the various configuration options on the BlackBerry itself. Specifically, the "Security Options" section on the Options screen. In there you can configure everything about how it handles certificates and such. (Also, I believe you can even use the desktop software to explicitly load your own certs on the device, and set trust settings for them) -Derek On Tuesday 23 June 2009 11:51:46 pm Chris Seawood wrote: > FWIW, I ran into a similar problem a couple of months ago. FWIW, I ran into a similar problem a couple of months ago. LogicMail 1.0.4 worked fine for me on my 8330 running 4.1.x when using an exchange server with a self-signed cert. After I upgraded the 8330 to 4.5.x, LogicMail gets the "Unable to reopen connection" error when it tries to establish the connection. I haven't figured out why. Using a self-signed cert with a courier imap server works fine though. - cls Derek Konigsberg said the following on 6/23/2009 8:08 PM: > There are many possible causes, most of them having to do with your BlackBerry > configuration. There are many possible causes, most of them having to do with your BlackBerry configuration. If the problem was just the certificate, then you should be getting a popup about accepting the invalid certificate. But if you get that error immediately, then you probably have something else misconfigured. The first thing I'd check is the BlackBerry's TCP settings (see the FAQ on the project website for details). -Derek On Tuesday 23 June 2009 11:02:16 pm Marcelo Iturbe wrote: > Hello, > I am trying to configure logicmail to connect to an IMAP server over SSL > where the certificate is invalid. > > I have configured the account with same setting that work on G1, Iphone and > Windows Mobile. > On all the other email clients I am warned that the certificate is invalid > and if I am sure I trust the remote server. > > However on logicmail client (1.0.4) simply states "Unable to reopen > connection". > > I have selected the option "Connection Debugging" in Global Settings but I > do not know where I can see this debug data. > > The device is a blackberry 9000 V4.6.0.185 (platform 4.0.0.169) > > Thanks for your help > > Marcelo -- --------------------------- Derek Konigsberg dko...@lo... --------------------------- |

Hello, I am trying to configure logicmail to connect to an IMAP server over SSL where the certificate is invalid. I have configured the account with same setting that work on G1, Iphone and Windows Mobile. On all the other email clients I am warned that the certificate is invalid and if I am sure I trust the remote server. However on logicmail client (1.0.4) simply states "Unable to reopen connection". I have selected the option "Connection Debugging" in Global Settings but I do not know where I can see this debug data. The device is a blackberry 9000 V4.6.0.185 (platform 4.0.0.169) Thanks for your help Marcelo |

All Just came across this and it may well fit my bill superbly but having read lots of info I have a question unresolved although it is implied in some items I have read. Can I run Logicmail in parallel with an existing BES setup on my blackberry Bold without disrupting the existing BES Setup? Jim |

Thanks for both of these reports. It looks like you've been doing a lot more testing of the 2.0 code than I have lately :-) I'm not yet sure if I'm going to write up tickets for these issues, but I'm definitely going to address them. The best way to submit feature requests is with tickets on the website. "Feature Request" is one of the ticket types you can write. Most of the things you're interested in should probably be assigned to the 2.0 milestone, though some might work for the 1.1 branch. I'll give you a pass this time, and write up the tickets for you :-) I'll also use that as an opporunity to fill in my comments on each one. I'll set you as a CC on the tickets, so you should get automated e-mails from Trac as I submit them. I've seen three different incorrect behaviors with respect to deleting messages with the current dev branch build: 1. Message headers downloaded to client and then message deleted on server -- message stays visible in message list on client, and when you try to view it, you get an empty message display (obviously, since it's not on the server anymore so the body can't be downloaded). Only way to get rid of it from the message list appears to be to exit and restart LogicMail. 2. Message deleted on client -- I saw at least one case where the message was removed from neither the client's message list nor the server when I told LogicMail to delete it. 3. Message deleted on client -- I saw one case where the message was deleted on the server but remained visible on the client. Again, exiting and restarting LogicMail made it go away. Thanks, Jik |

(Yeah, yeah, I'm sending in a log of feature requests. I just started using LogicMail, so there's going to be a flurry of suggestions from me and then silence. :-) (If this is the wrong place to be sending these, please let me know where I should be sending them.) Just like there should be a "Move..." menu item when viewing the message list, there should be a "Delete" menu item when viewing an individual message. Thanks, Jik |

I don't want the system to prompt me for confirmation of deleted messages. Any change of adding that as a configuration option? Thanks, Jik |

Will this change also be merged into the development branch. I just installed the latest 1.9 build and I don't see it there. Thanks, Jonathan Kamens |

If you go to the configuration page for an account, switch from Basic Settings to Folder settings, then hit the back button, it asks if you want to Save, Discard or Cancel. It shouldn't ask, since nothing was actually changed. Ditto if you view the Advanced settings. Thanks, Jik |

I would like LogicMail to behave like other BlackBerry applications when I use the back button to exit from it back to the home page -- I'd like it to stay running in the background automatically, rather than prompting and asking me if I want to exit. Looking at it another way, I think the "Close" menu option from the main LogicMail window should close the application and put it into the background, as opposed to the "Exit" menu option, which should exit all the way (without asking for confirmation), and I think the Back button from the LogicMail home page should exit the "Close" command rather than the "Exit" command. Thanks, Jonathan Kamens P.S. Thanks very much to the developers of LogicMail for all the work you've done on this nifty app! |

It would be great if I could tell LogicMail to try to connect via WiFi and then fall back on connecting through the phone network if WiFi fails. Even better would be if LogicMail checked whether WiFi was enabled and only tried if it was. Even better would be if LogicMail checked whether there was an active WiFi connection and only tried to connedt via WiFi if there was. Basically, I'd like LogicMail to be smart enough to use WiFi when it's available and working and not use it otherwise. Thanks, Jonathan Kamens |

I'm glad to see that the development branch of LogicMail has a "Move to..." command for moving a message to another folder. I have a request for an enhancement to this functionality. It would be nice to be able to move a message from the message list as well as when viewing the message. I.e., when a message is highlighted in a message list and I bring up the menu, there should be a "Move to..." command to move that message. Thanks, Jonathan Kamens |

I had to delete the account and re-add it to make it work. Checking the option and refreshing the folders didn't get it. Thanks for helping me out. I'll be trying it out. Someone contributed a patch to add this feature, and I've merged it into the 1.1 branch. So get the latest 1.1 build (called the "maintenance branch" on the website), and you should find the option somewhere in the configuration menus. Then do a folder refresh, and it should work. -Derek On Tuesday 09 June 2009 8:24:18 pm George Sexton wrote: > I noticed when I use LogicMail with my IMAP folders, all folders show up, > not just subscribed folders. > > I have some folders that contain archive messages that I'm no longer > subscribed to, but I want to keep them around for reference. > > Is there a way to only show subscribed folders in the IMAP folder list? > > George Sexton > MH Software, Inc. - Home of Connect Daily Web Calendar > http://www.mhsoftware.com/ > Voice: 303 438 9585 > > > > > --------------------------------------------------------------------------- >--- Crystal Reports - New Free Runtime and 30 Day Trial > Check out the new simplified licensing option that enables unlimited > royalty-free distribution of the report engine for externally facing > server and web deployment. > http://p.sf.net/sfu/businessobjects > _______________________________________________ > Logicmail-users mailing list > Log...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/logicmail-users -- --------------------------- Derek Konigsberg dko...@lo... --------------------------- |
