Hi there, There seems to be no tag for 4.5.2 in the SVN repository even though it has been released already. I'm looking under https://logicaldoc.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/logicaldoc/community/logicaldoc/tags . Hi all, the followinto to inform that all localization properties were all moved into the module logicaldoc-i18n, and that you can perform translations on LaunchPad: https://translations.launchpad.net/logicaldoc/trunk Attention: if during development you need new keys, place them in i18n/application_en.properties, all other languages will be overwritten by the translations fom LaunchPad. LogicalDOC is a Web-based Document Management System (DMS), easy to use and learn. The purpose of the release 4.5.1 was to improve the multilingual support provided by LogicalDOC. In particular, after the development of plugins for Greek and Chinese languages support, it was realized that was necessary to treat properly also all the files with ideographic characters. Furthermore, it was necessary to make some changes to improve content indexing of foreign documents and to display correctly the snippets with search results. Due to these changes, the search by tag has been improved, allowing to manually enter the first character of the words that we want to display, useful for non-Latin alphabets. A big thanks to Marinos Vlasakis for Greek translation and Tong Hongxian (Shanghai Electric) for translation in Chinese simplified. See the ChangeLog for details. https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=239244&release_id=698389 <https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=239244&release_id=698389> You could download this version at the following address: https://sourceforge.net/projects/logicaldoc/files/distribution/logicaldoc-4.5.1-tomcat-bundle.zip/download If you need support for LogicalDOC you can consider the Enterprise Edition available at http://www.logicaldoc.com -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Alessandro Gasparini e-mail: a.g...@lo... <mailto:a.g...@lo...> --------------------------------------------------------------- Logical Objects snc Via Bonasi, 2/A 41012 Carpi (MO) Italy Tel./Fax. 059 688969 web: http://www.logicalobjects.it |

Hi Ardeshir Another thing, in the user manual there is a specific section on WebDAV that explains how to configure easily webdav client for windows (XP/Vista). http://downloads.sourceforge.net/logicaldoc/logicaldoc-4.0-usermanual.pdf?use_mirror= Anyway, I on my work machine (Windows) I tested the WebDAV interface with the Microsoft client webfolders and with NetDrive (a free webdav client more useful than webfolder). http://www.netdrive.net/ The browser is not the best way to consult the webdav because unless it is a webdav enabled browser it can fails to make you see the repository. To be safe about the webdav working you can also try webdav DAVExplorer-0.91, this is a crude application written in Java that can be used to verify the installation. Perhaps if you see a blank page the LogicalDOC archive is empty. Try first creating some documents with the traditional Web-interface the you should see the created document on the WebDAV client. I'm very sorry Ardeshir, but just now we have found a last minute bug in our WebDAV implementation. This bug prevents the view of folders created in the GUI..... :-! I'm uploading a fresh LD 4.0 version with the fixed bug. it will be online in the next 10 minutes Then i suggest you to download and install this new version. Hi Ardeshir, to take advantage of the new amazing webdav interface, after you have installed LogicalDOC 4.0 you must have a webdav client to mount logicaldoc. in the logicaldoc user manual there is a Chapter dedicated to the WebDAV client setup: 5) LOGICALDOC AS A WEB FOLDER you can download the User's manual in the documentation package: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/logicaldoc/logicaldoc-4.0-usermanual.pdf For the client to use i personally suggest WindowsXP/Vista: NetDrive (Free for Home Use) http://www.netdrive.net/purchase.html Linux/Mac OS X: see the User's manual and tell us your opinion about the listed clients the Connection url for WebDAV in logicaldoc is: http://localhost:8080/logicaldoc/webdav/store or http://localhost:8080/webdav/store if you install with the tomcat boundle provided (without application context) user/password (are the same of the user created in logicaldoc), by default the admin user is: admin/admin You could also check the WebDAV page in our wiki: http://www.logicaldoc.info/wiki/index.php?title=WebDAV Best regards A. Hi Tufan, we are also interested in expanding the base of our automatic tests. Currently most of our tests are made at the level of core (logicaldoc-core). See the architecture-guide http://downloads.sourceforge.net/logicaldoc/logicaldoc-architecture-3.6.pdf?use_mirror= You can see an example of the coverage of the test site that we made with maven to 3.6 LD http://logicaldoc.sourceforge.net/site/logicaldoc-core/cobertura/index.html We are also interested in developing automatic streess tests on the GUI interface with JMeter but actually we don't know how to automatically test a web-based AJAX interface like the one of LD 4.0 There is a need to do researches and to study the problem. Unfortunately we can not however provide information about it because while knowing JMeter (we used Contineo 2.5) we have not yet done tests of this type. So, if you are concerned, we have space (for a new developer)... Best regards A. Gasparini Tufan Görel ha scritto: > > Hi; > > thanks for your explanation. Hi Tufan, perhaps in my previous email I haven't explained very well our needs. We plan to release LogicalDOC 4.0 in the first week of February and we are furiously testing the graphical interface. But we have some problems, our forces are limited and for this reason we are asking your help. In this moment the need is to test manually the user interface, because in some aspects (lucene index, databases, AJAX interactions) the behavior of the application is not reproducible with automatic tests (JUnit). For this we have divided the areas to be tested. Best regards A. Gasparini Tufan Görel ha scritto: > > hi; > > I have some experience at writing JUnit test cases that can be > helpful. Hi Tiago, I am truly happy to hear your news. It was a long time we had hoped to translate the program in Portuguese, for ease of use, and to enlarge the user base. We can proceed in this way, you can register yourself on SourceForge (and tell us your username) and subsequently we will credit among members of the project. Then we can proceed in two ways 1) Install all the development environment by following the instructions in the developer's manual http://downloads.sourceforge.net/logicaldoc/logicaldoc-devmanual-1.1.pdf?use_mirror = and to translate the file application_pt.properties (committing changes on SVN from time to time) 2) Proceed simply with the translation of the file properties of the program as described on the wiki: http://www.logicaldoc.info/wiki/index.php?title=Adding_new_languages_to_LogicalDOC note: the instructions reported refer to LogicalDOC 3.6, (the plugin for the Portuguese language does not work with logicaldoc 4.0) for version 4.0 of the program the properties files are in the module logicaldoc-web in folder \src\main\resources\i18n If you need more instructions feel free to ask us anything Thank you from now for your contribution Best regards Alessandro Tiago Cunha ha scritto: > Message body follows: > > Hello > My name is Tiago Cunha, I'm from Portugal. > I Computer Engineering. > I want to help in the translation Portuguese / Brazilian > How can I help? > > Compliments > > tia...@gm... > > -- > This message has been sent to you, a registered SourceForge.net user, > by another site user, through the SourceForge.net site. This is the LogicalDOC CE 4.0 RC2 release. LogicalDOC is a Web-based Document Management System (DMS), easy to use and learn. LogicalDOC supports its users with a powerful search engine (Lucene), Web service interface (JAX-WS via CXF), and versioning. Documents can be organized into hierarchical folders, and searched using the search engine or by document similarity. The archive can also be navigated through Tag-Cloud or document-links. LogicalDOC CE 4.0 was tested with a million real documents. Support for WebDAV and the creation of custom attributes on documents via a document's template were also introduced. Among other things, the deferred indexing of documents and the scheduled task for calculation of Tag-Cloud have been implemented. Compared to the previous RC1, several important bugs were fixed. Also a major new feature was developed. This feature allows you to manage the visibility/editing of the fields in a document by group. For details of changes see the ChangeLog. Please give this RC2 a test drive! Report any bugs you find using the bug tracker (http://bugs.logicaldoc.com) You can discuss issues in the user forum (https://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=865524) or in the mailing list (https://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=logicaldoc-users). Best regards A. Gasparini |

Ok Ardeshir, let me unbderstand the problem. When you try to import a zip created in a MAC system you experiment exceptions ad are not able to access documents, is this correct? You think that the problem is the presence of files named .DS_Store and that this is the reason of the crash? We do not have tried to import hidden files before, and have no experiences with MAC. Can you tell me if the problem exists on all files with a '.' prefix? Dear developers, I have just tracked down a strange phenomenon we have been facing since couple of months. problem raised every time we tried to import ZIP folders into LogocalDoc. after importing, the system would throw the 'fatal error' message and needed a re-login once we clicked on the newly imported folder. in some cases though, we couldn't even do a re-login because the system would throw the fatal error already when we wanted to access the login page. It cost us load of time and labour every time we crashed like that since we had to often reinstall the system the lay the documents again in the system. After lot of investigations I found out the folders which are zipped under MAC OS seemed to be the pain in the neck. I spotted that MAC makes some hidden files (eg. .DS_Strore) when you make a zip folder. These hidden files get imported along with the other files into LogicalDoc and the consequence of that is the fatal error and eventually crashing the system. LogicalDOc does not like those funny files. Has anyone else experienced that? What do we do against it? good day gentlemen. Ardeshir |

This is the first release candidate for LogicalDOC CE 4.0 . LogicalDOC is an Enterprise class Web-based Document Management System (DMS), easy to use and learn. This 4.0 RC1 release is a heavily refactored version of LogicalDOC Community Edition. The database has been completely rewritten, security management has been rewritten from scratch and the system was tested with 1M (1,000,000) of real documents. It was also introduced support for WebDAV (Many Thanks to Sebastian Wenzky) and the creation of custom attributes on documents via document's template. The WebDAV is accessibile at the following address: http://localhost:8080/logicaldoc/webdav/store/ user/pass: admin/admin . Among other things the deferred indexing of documents has been implemented along with the scheduled task for calculation of Tag-Cloud. LogicalDOC uses the following core technologies: * J2EE 2.4 web tier * JSF 1.2 * JAX-WS 2.0 * Lucene 2.4 * Hibernate 3.2.6ga * Spring 2.5.4 * CXF * IceFaces 1.7.2 * JPF . For details of changes see the ChangeLog. Report any bugs you find using the bug tracker (http://bugs.logicaldoc.com) . Access the Wiki and consult some useful information about the new WebDAV interface (http://wiki.logicaldoc.com) . You can discuss issues in the user forum (http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=865524). -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Alessandro Gasparini e-mail: a.g...@lo... <mailto:a.g...@lo...> --------------------------------------------------------------- Logical Objects snc Via Bonasi, 2/A 41012 Carpi (MO) Italy Tel./Fax. 059 688969 web: http://www.logicalobjects.it |

Hello Sebastian, what I mean is that the WebDAV in my opinion is in place, but I would like to implement a mechanism of auto-versioning for clients without versioning support. In practice, most clients support the function of the lock / unlock, we could implement the auto versioning using this mode: LOCK = set the status of the document to CHECKOUT GET = download document PUT = if the user has acquired the lock on the document will create a new version, otherwise create a duplicate of the document. (set the status of the document to CHECKIN) It should not be very difficult, I could look this by myself, while if you want you may start as you had talked to Marco the development of authentication from external systems (LDAP, Active Directory) Alessandro sw...@kr... ha scritto: > Hello again, > > if i understand you in the right way, then you could not checkin through WebDAV? This is implemented as well. Checkout a File and overwrite it on putting a new file into the current folder. The mechanism is fully WebDAV-compliant and is called "auto-version". This means, that if we have a resource under version-controll as well as is being checked-out, putting a new version of the file into the same space caues an automatically checkin and increment of the version number. But i guess, you mean not this point of view. > > Checkin is therefore not possible as logicaldoc does not support this feature without putting a new file in the same time to the server. > > > Therefore, i would say, that i would doing a lot of refactorings within the current state of code. > > > Best Regards > Sebastian > > > > > > Hi Sebastian, > > I have extensively tested the capabilities of our WebDAV module and I > think it is quite ready. > > Remain to be discussed some things like rename documents and the > mechanism for versioning ... > > I am not entirely sure that it is worthwhile to allow the rename of the > resource (file) from the webdav client, when the actual document in > logicaldoc has a different filename... > > Anyway I tried extensively the versioning with ITHitMapWebDAVDrive and > it works well. > > I also tried to implement the checkin method, but then I dropped it > because with our system could not be used. > > The last thing that perhaps we could discuss is the automatic versioning. > At the end i discovered that very few clients support the > checkout-checkin methods and i think that would be worthwhile to > investigate the issue. > We could also create a new version as a result of a concatenation of > LOCK-PUT on a document by the same user. > > Best regards > Alessandro > > > sw...@kr... ha scritto: > >> Hi there, >> >> what is the current state of testing? Hi Sebastian, I have extensively tested the capabilities of our WebDAV module and I think it is quite ready. Remain to be discussed some things like rename documents and the mechanism for versioning ... I am not entirely sure that it is worthwhile to allow the rename of the resource (file) from the webdav client, when the actual document in logicaldoc has a different filename... Anyway I tried extensively the versioning with ITHitMapWebDAVDrive and it works well. I also tried to implement the checkin method, but then I dropped it because with our system could not be used. The last thing that perhaps we could discuss is the automatic versioning. At the end i discovered that very few clients support the checkout-checkin methods and i think that would be worthwhile to investigate the issue. We could also create a new version as a result of a concatenation of LOCK-PUT on a document by the same user. Hi to all, can someone start the development of external authentication (Issue #12)? This issue is in the roadmap for the 4.0 version that will be released in January 2009. If someone can start the development of this plugin, please tell us so that we can cooperate. Otherways we will drop the feature from the 4.0 version. Hi Sebastian, in these two days, yesterday and today I checked the versioning feature that you have implemented in the webdav module of logicaldoc. I must say that work exactly as you described. 1) Perform checkout of a document 2) Upload the modified document a new version of the document is generated There are no problems or at least I didn't found. But I grew a doubt about the use of WebDAV Explorer from the users. It certainly is a very useful software, but I noticed immediately that was a bit dated, the latest version dates back to February 2005. It is also based on Java 1.2. So I thought it was better to try a more modern client and user friendly. Unfortunately there are not many in circulation to support the versioning feature, however I have found one that has these features. It's called IT Hit WebDAV Map Drive: http://www.webdavsystem.com/mapdrive I uploaded on SourceForge at the following address http://logicaldoc.sourceforge.net/webdavclient/ITHitMapWebDAVDrive.zip this is the 30 days trial license http://logicaldoc.sourceforge.net/webdavclient/License.lic With this software I tried to run the versioning of documents but the operation was not possible. I think it is necessary to implement some other methods (checkin for example) to make more user/friendly WebDAV client exploit the versioning features. In any case I just tried this client, if you know others with whom we can do the test there would be much help. Hi guys, i am proud to announce that we have the logicaldoc-webdav plugin! I tested it today and it is very nice. With this plugin the user can mount LogicalDOC as normal disk unit and browse the documents archive without logging on in the web application!! All the development has ben done by Sebastian Wenzky. All we are immensely grateful for your work. Many thanks Sebastian. --------------------------------------------------------------- ing. Hi all, as previously announced the entity Term has been dropped, the search by similarity has been re-implemented using a simple search against the Lucene index. Basically when a user asks for similar documents, LogicalDOC prepares a simple query using the 10 most used words of the document. This design choice lead us the following benefits: * High performances on large archived * Reduced complexity(a very complex algorithm was needed to use Terms) * Reduced maintenance effort(various classes were dropped) With this change, we think that refactoring activities are accomplisced so we can continue with the implementation of new features such as WebDAV and External authentication. In the next days we will use the TestBench tool to stress LogicalDOC and then we will publish the results of our tests. Hello everyone, i'm Alessandro Gasparini, PM of the open source project LogicalDOC We thought a few areas of development on the project and if you have a bit of time we can discuss what we can implement in the new release. At present our working group (Logical Objects) is working on several areas: Site, Wiki, Documentation, Improving Performance (we would reach the quota of 500,000 documents indexed). In this period we are also trying to coordinate the work of other members of the group in order to be able to work together on the project. We then identified some areas of activity and we are proposing to members of the group. We are however open to any proposal (which will be discussed together). For now I will show the work areas 1) Improvements to versioning of documents (chekin) (Simple) : Jesus Marin 2) Improvements to acquiring documents from mailbox (Intermediate) 3) Interfacing with other authentication systems (LDAP / Active Directory) (Complex) : Rajiv 4) Ability to save queries and rerun at a later time (Complex) 5) Improvements to the discussion of documents (Forum style) (Complex) 6) Documentation (JavaDoc - Architecture - Wiki) 7) WebDaV interface (Complex) : Gustav Schenk 8) Improvements to the web-service module (Simple) The important thing is that development activities (code) should be completed by the end of November, because we would like to keep the month of December to test the system for stability, so we can not start too many activities that could then be unable to conclude or coordinate. I wanted then to ask whether there is any such activities that interest you and that you may spend a little of your time, possibly by working together with other members of the group. If so tell us as soon as possible so that we can coordinate and produce the material needed (specifics) to detail the activities of interest to you. Hi there, as you know LogicalDOC has an interesting feature that other DMS doesn't have: search by similarity. Well, we want to preserve this feature but by now all the 'search by similarity' machinery is based on the Term business entity and it's table LD_TERM. This approach *kills* performances on very huge documents archives sinche for each document 20 records are also created in LD_TERM. Imagine a population of 1M documents, int this case we will get 20M records into LD_TERM! So our intention is to drop Term object and all it's associated logic and reimplement the feature following one of the two approaches: 1. Use the lucene Index: similar documents are those documents that have a similar value in the 'content' field of the lucene index. 2. Use keywords(table LD_KEYWORD): similar documents are those documents that share at least one keyword I think the first approach is the best, while the second ignores documents without keywords. So in the next days we will proceed to this refactoring, if you don't have objections. The final purpose is always to achieve higher performances. PS The new tool TestBench is giving us a lot of satisfaction, ASAP we will publish our benchmarks. Best Regards --------------------------------------------------------------- ing.
