Most likely because your Log4perl configuration file contains a line like

     log4perl.appender.FileApp.layout   = PatternLayout

which Log4perl processes fine by internally mapping it to

     log4perl.appender.FileApp.layout= Log::Log4perl::Layout::PatternLayout

but maybe this confuses PAR? Can you try it by using the latter instead?
