Which version of perl are you using? i'm using Perl 5.8.1 on Fedora Core 1. i've tried this test again on known-good UTF-8 after reverting my changes to Screen.pm, and the problem seems to have disappeared, so i suspect malformed UTF-8 character sequences in my test data (possible, as I was copying and pasting the words) or sunrays bouncing off the memory chips. as a matter of interest, i've attached my test script and the file containing the UTF-8 bytes. sorry about the false alarm, still getting used to this Perl UTF-8 support :) regards, leon |
