Thanks for the test case. Funny, it works perfectly here on my Linux box 
-- 5 cases, no errors, all I get is a message on the console from the 
syslog daemon, but that's expected behaviour I guess.  I'm using perl 
5.8.0 on RH7.2 with Log::Dispatch::Syslog 1.18.
