thanks for your patch -- but it's already implemented in the pending 0.23 release, currently only available via CVS. It implements the standard log4j %d{} formats as documented in
http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/docs/api/org/apache/log4j/PatternLayout.html
which are somewhat different from strftime. Also, ABSOLUTE, DATE, and ISO8601 are supported.
Please check out the version from CVS and let me know if it fits your needs. If you have trouble using CVS, let me know, I can send you a tarball.
