Yee, I think the answer is no, unless you're using an XML config file,
in which case the parser should complain.
The properties-style files are so loosely structured that things that
don't look like name/value lines simply don't trigger any actions.
I think properties files under java are going to have the same problems,
but I don't have time to test them right now:
