[Log4cplus-devel] Compatibility VS2005

Hallo!

I wounder if there is an active community, which is interested in some
improvements to keep log4cplus compatible with the actual MS IDE. 

The following steps I had to perform to compile log4cplus in MS VS 2005
Express:

- Import the MDDev6 Projects
- Add the include path of MS PSDK to all projects
- Add the preprocessor definition _CRT_SECURE_NO_DEPRECATE to the
project properties. It would be better to write it in some header...
- In stringhelper.h add the following in line 122:
	typedef std::output_iterator_tag itereator_category;
- In stringhelper.h change the two occurences of __value to value
- In timehelper.cxx and timehelper.h replace all ocurrences of long with
time_t. time_t in VS2005 isnt a long (32 bit) value. Its a 64 bit value.
- In timehelper.cxx and timehelper.h change the return type of setTime
from int to time_t.

With that changes it compiles without any errors. I'm not sure if that
changes have any effects on the functionality, because I just begin
using this library.

I'm compiling the log4cpp project on Cygwin.=20

When I do a make check the testPattern fail.

The testPattern.exe simply core dumps.

On further digging into the code and using basic debugging, I found that
the below patterns are causing problems

I don't know if this is the done thing or not, but since the subject of
moribundity and other libraries has come up in the log4cxx mailing-list, I'd
like to draw people's attention to a new logging _API_ library that myself
and a colleague have recently released to the public domain: Pantheios
(http://pantheios.sourceforge.net/).

As the website explains, this comes with its own basic logging transport
facilities. But it is really a flexible/extensible, 100% type-safe, and very
efficient (see http://pantheios.sourceforge.net/performance.html) layer that
can be used over the rich transport facilities of any existing logging
library, including log4cxx or log4cplus.

We've an article coming out soon on The C++ Source
(http://artima.com/cppsource/) which will introduce it to the C++ world, so
to speak. But since the subject's been raised in the log4cxx forum, I
thought I'd give it a mention now.

The current beta contains two examples in which log4cxx
(examples/cpp/example_cpp_wrap_3pty_log_lib) and log4cplus
(examples/cpp/example_cpp_wrap_log4cplus) are wrapped. If anyone with
particular expertise with log4cxx, log4cplus and log4cpp would be willing to
lend a hand in producing actual bindings to these libraries, we'd be very
grateful. (Note: you can still use NDC's and all that stuff from within
application code, so Pantheios+log4XYZ offers the best of both worlds.)

[Log4cplus-devel] VS2005 Support

Hi, 
    We just upgraded our develop tool to use VisualStudio 2005 from 2003.
    Then we cannot compile log4cplus 1.02 with VS2005 anymore....
    It gives us alot of errors....
    Want to find out if any one on the list be able to compile it /w VS2005.

  Here are some of the errors. It saids to use "/clr" opt. But if we use it then it conflicts /w other opt... then if we change the other opt to reolve the conflict... it gave more error on different things..

Hi all,

I'm using log4cplus under Sol9 for the first fime.
When PropertyConfigurator::doConfigure("some_config_file") is called =
log4cplus consumes memory infinitely and never return back.

I don't have this problem if BasicConfigurator::doConfigure() is used =
instead.

Did you know about this problem?

I used log4cplus for a while under Sol8 without a flaw.

[Log4cplus-devel] Porting to PowerPC (IBM contest)

I am interested in doing the PowerPC port.

It compiles cleanly, I have also run the tests and am not really sure what
is defined as success. Would success imply the same results as obtained
on say x86 Linux ?

Any pointers would be appreciated.
