Welcome to Localtrade.

This is an application which facilitated for publishing and viewing classified ads, primarly for the second-hand market, on Facebook. It takes full advantage of the unique Facebook open graph. This will ensure that the ads reaches a big audience in a short time. Localtrade has, as the name implies, a local profile. i.e. your ad will be published in a small geographical area, but will reach all the Facebook members in this area, and more.

The idea for this application came to be because of the immmensly popular "Buy, sell, swap giveaway in (insert your town or area here)" -groups which exists in our home country, Norway. The problem is that Facebook groups is not really suitable for advertising; The ads can be under page-fold in mere minutes, the search function is awful, and the users can't manage their own ads in a reasonable way. That being said, these groups are popular for a reason; The fastest market for classified ads is the local market. People can easily see your ad for the first time and come get the advertised item at your home the same day. That eliminates shipping costs, and you will get rid of the item superfast. It's the same the other way. If you want to buy e.g. a new electronical gadget, but don't want to wait (or pay) for it shipping from the retailer, why don't you drive up to the guy who sells that gadget in your own street?

Localtrade is a student project for a bachelor-degree in IT- and information systems, at the College of Buskerud in Norway. It was developed during the school year september 2012 to june 2013 by the students Borgar Flaen Stensrud, Morten Flydahl and Sindre Njøsen.

In this small Wiki (which we hope will be further expanded by future developers) we will provide basic system and operational documentation, so that you can easily get started by implementing Localtrade to your own country (or other geographical area). Norway, we would like to keep to ourselves for now, but we welcome help to further enhance the code and to operate the application.

Localtrade is developed by using the CakePHP framework, version 2.3.
We will not provide any CakePHP-related documentation in this Wiki, other than to link to their great cookbook and to their API.

Let's get started by looking at how to implement your own version of Localtrade. Go to [02 Before start]

Localtrade is released under the MIT-licence, this includes this documentation with all it's pages.
