Read Me

This mercurial repository contains essays about newspapers made as part of the
National Digital Newspaper Program. Each essay is an XHTML file, which contains
machine readable metadata about the essay itself using RDFa and the Dublin Core
vocabulary. 

Originally the essays were bundled as "batches", or named directories, which 
contained METS XML files, which themselves contained chunks of XHTML. 
Unfortunately they weren't easy to manage in that form, so they were 
converted over (using the scripts/convert.py) to being XHTML.
