Hi guys,
It's getting that time of year again when the bugreports will start aflowin'.
Ehm, actually I've been extremely lazy with MusE related things, got a long
list of things I wish to take care of...
I have however tried to use MusE a bit lately, so... I can atleast report back
a bunch of bugs I tripped on.
First of, I've borrowed a Yamaha EX7 that seems to have all the bells and
whistles needed for testing sync. I've done a little work here. Basically I
can confirm what's been said before. In slave mode MusE can track (some)
relocation of the "play-pointer". But that is all that's possible, the rest
is pretty much commented out. I'll dive in to this a bit more later on when
I've built up enough energy ;).
Secondly, I've done quite a lot of work with 0.7.0 and I can honestly say that
it's the most stable release of MusE, ever. Infact it's quite usable :) I've
ran it for hours at end with only minor issues. Hopefully this isn't just me.
Thirdly, I've tested CVS MusE a bit, especially with respect to VST and here's
a bunch of issues I've come across:
------------------
I can not instantiate vst or vsti plugins unless I stand in the actual
directory they are in. I see that MusE by default looks in /usr/lib/vst
and /usr/local/lib/vst, putting them there makes them show up but I cannot
instantiate them.
I get:
SynthIF:: cannot load vst plugin /usr/lib/vst/abacus.dll
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
fst signal handler 11, thread = 0x4000
(about 2000 printouts of the latter)
The only thing that works is:
export VST_PATH=.
and then standing in the correct dir when starting MusE.
This is most likely a wine.conf issue, but I've run out of ideas about things
to change...
---------
Good that it is possible to use VST plugins without the GUI since many plugs
have fatal problems with the GUI.
I argued previously about not having a default guy for synths. This does
however seem like a very good reason to add one. VSTinstruments suffer from
the same problem, rendering lots of them totally unusable since they crash on
startup.
---------
Metronome synth distorts to the point where it is unusable, when it just was
added it worked... A GUI for this synth with visual beat marks and volume
control would be a great enhancement.
---------
Something changed with plugins. Several LADSPA plugs that previously where
available as stereo plugs are no longer available. SC4 comes to mind as an
excellent example. It is available in the [all] category but instantiating it
leads to total havoc, only noise comes out.
Ok, that's all for the moment, none of this is added to the wiki yet. I'll try
to do that, as well as a dozen other things.
0.7 was good but 0.8 (or will it be 1.0 ?? :-) will be great!
/Robert
