What operating system are you using?

If you are on Windows, I would highly recommend updating your Realtek sound drivers from the Realtek website.

In Windows you can try selecting "SDL" from the sound options, although this should already be selected.

I am an amateur artist trying to get into self-production and have recently downloaded LMMS and Audacity. I cannot get started because the sound is coming out as some sort of rumbling static. The beat is registering and sound is coming out, it is just a distorted mess. The interface is MME and uses Realtek speakers. Do I need actual studio monitors? I have read the manual and increased the buffer size. Any suggestions?
