I've been running LMMS on a presario x1000 laptop 1.4ghz and 512ram with pretty good results. Recently I upgraded to mandriva 2007 and ran across something very interesting.  I use Qjackctl to route LMMS to my usb soundcard, well Jack isn't running in user mode so I opened it in a root terminal and did the same with LMMS.  It sounded and ran so much better, it is a dramatic difference.  I use the triple osc alot and I noticed that there are less artifacts, popping, and noise in general and it sounds so much more articulate.  It sounded so good I couldn't stop playing with it.  I midi my keyboard to the triple osc, I love its sound, especialy in root.
I thought of compiling LMMS on a more streamline distro like vector linux for better results.  Is there a better kernel number for realtime priority?  Like 2.6.15 or something like that.
Another thing when I start LMMS in terminal I get the message could not set realtime priority any tips in this direction.
I use this program more than any other.  The only thing I miss is an audio capture function.  That must be super involved to code, but dang it would put LMMS on top of the linux music program food chain.
The things I really love about this program
I can consitantly compile it. (and I'm just an end user)
The sequencer is by far the most user friendly ( compared to rosegarden and the others I've toodled with)
The triple osc sounds amazing (I wish it had portamento, hint, hint)
The audio output has a much fuller sound than fruityloops ever did  ( I used that program for years in my windows days up to version 6 and it alway had this sort of flattish, cardboard, please pretend this is bass, sound.  Maybe the legacy drivers, I don't know but my friends noticed it too.)
  Thanks for the tips,
   Scott Belden
