LKSM - Live Kernel Self Migration README ______________________________________________________________________________ ABOUT LKSM LKSM is a software system which implements live migration of a Linux operating system image, including running applications, from one physical host to another. Migration data is sent over a TCP network connection between the source and destination, established by user-level applications running on each host. Once the connection is set up, a kernel driver mirrors physical memory pages from the source host to the destination. Once memory has been duplicated, the driver checkpoints the kernel and sends the snapshot to the destination, which then restores itself to the checkpoint state and resumes operation. Meanwhile, the source host halts. Applications running on the migrating system continue to operate normally throughout the migration. DOCUMENTATION Is in the doc/ directory at the top level of the source distribution. You should probably start with the release notes (doc/RELEASE_NOTES). After that you can read the tutorial in doc/HOWTO, which describes all the steps in preparing and running a migration. For more information on how LKSM does its thing, see the design note doc/lksm_design.pdf. LICENSE This software is Copyright 2010 Stratus Technologies Bermuda Ltd.
