#13 trying to ascertain if exporting your archive saves the file

I plan to erase one of my livejournals, and I have synced, and saved said journal. Now, I plan to delete said journal, and I do not have any kind of printer hooked up yet. Now, can I just save the file as is, and will it sync without the journal present? Or does Exporting it save it differently? I don't want to lose months of intel.
I know exporting in Firefox for my bookmarks saves all the links so I don't lose any saved information. I am wondering if this is the same principal or is the only way to save it by printing it out. I am so lost, and I cannot find any information on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
