Lives:

Lives is crashing on startup on the current Debian Stable amd64. See below.

Is there a solution/ work-around? I don't see a newer package on:

https://backports.debian.org/changes/jessie-backports.html

    This has certainly been fixed some time in the last 3 years. Please update to the latest version of LiVES (currently 2,8.6).

    LiVES packages for debian are listed here, perhaps you can use the version from unstable ?
