Little Brother Network Monitor / News: Recent posts

Plugin scripts for the Little Brother network monitoring system have been uploaded. These typically require no extra code to be installed on the system(s) being monitored.

Plugins include checks for network services like http, ftp, pop3, nntp, ssh, etc., as well as ones for snmp queries, CPU load, and toner/paper checks for certain printers.

The "lb-scripts" module has been added to the Little Brother CVS tree. It contains the scripts which perform checks that have not been built into the core of Little Brother, which in fact is the majority of tests.

Some of the hecks included are for HTTP, FTP, IMAP, IRC, NNTP, database access and networking hardware interface status via SNMP.

The upcoming 3.05 release will replace the ipfilter method's "Service" option by the new option "Port" to eliminate an ambiguity in nomenclature. Now "Service" will unequivocally mean an LB Service, and Port indicates an IP port being checked (which of course may still be indicated by an IP service name).

To be ready for the new release without invalidating your existing configuration, please augment your services configuration (or serviceoptions, if you're running from database) with "Port" options for all ipfilter-based services. This version of the Little Brother network monitoring system fixes all known serious bugs.

Some annoying bugs fixed, many improvements including dynamic load balancing.
