Nah, should work. I had both a new remote and an older one that were  
interchangeable.

I've seen mixed reports on this front. If the universal is programmed  
as a windows media center ed. remote and the receiver put in mce proto  
mode, it should theoretically work fine.

Different how? Typically, that is normal, one value for press, one  
similar-but-different for release.

That should be fine. Actually, any iMON variant should be the same  
difference these days, just about everything is auto-detected inside  
the driver.
