That was with a PVR250 and the built in LIRC using the then current version of knoppmyth. I never found the cause, as a harddrive crash (was using an oldie, as it was just for experimenting!) forced me to reinstall. I used the newer version of knoppmyth then, and the problem was not there with that install... I could navigate the system fine using a keyboard, but when doing the same with an IR and lirc, it gave a flicker (black screen for a splt second) on every button press...
