Yes this is what I want, multiple keys from multiple remotes so I know which ones work best with my universal.  I ran irw and there was no output with the 7.2MB file.  When I put it back to my old 500kb file it worked just fine.  Maybe waiting 60-120s wasn't enough?

What does "aren't working" mean? Did you run "irw" to see whether you
get some output? Maybe you get only different button names now.

I also tried to use a "complete" lircd.conf with all remotes a few years
ago. IIRC lircd was very slow to compare all these values, so it was not
really usable this way. I _guess_ there is no built-in limit for the
size of the lircd.conf - either it works with a big file or not.

Probably you won't get useful key names with that method, anyways. One
key name might come from one remote, the next key name from a totally
different remote.
