help needed on Window Manager control

Hi all,
I am just trying to configure a Pc-Box to solely be controlled via a 
single remote control.

I Guess starting xmms/mplayer/xtv is no problem, but I didn't manage to 
send windows events: minimize, switch-application (alt-tab) and so on...

Will be most greatfull for tips,
