Which one is best method ?

Dear list,

I have been using LIRC since last 2 yrs. I use the lirc driver, deamon etc 
come with debian. During compilation of kernel 2.6.12 I have seen that LIRC 
has been included in the kernel source code. I like to know which procedure 
is the best ( give good performance) ? compiling lirc support in the kernel 
or just using the lirc deamon, driver come with dedian.
