lirc and the desktop

Hello,

I would like to implement a Frontrow clone for my multimedia liveCD. I
want 4-5 launcher buttons on the desktop and I would like lirc to launch
the applications by pressing the red -> blue buttons on the remote. Can
I activate desktop launchers with lirc?
