Christoph, and other interested readers, >> lircd 0.7.1-CVS: readlink() failed for "/dev/lirc" >> lircd 0.7.1-CVS: No such file or directory > > [...] > > ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/lirc My bad. I should have mentioned that I tried that, or something like it: # /usr/local/sbin/lircd -n --device=/dev/ttyS0 lircd 0.7.1-CVS: lircd(mp3anywhere) ready lircd 0.7.1-CVS: accepted new client on /dev/lircd lircd 0.7.1-CVS: bad envelope lircd 0.7.1-CVS: bad envelope lircd 0.7.1-CVS: bad envelope The dread bad envelope returns! The symlink and a udev rule give the same results. Since removing the setserial command from /etc/modprobe.conf as you suggested, the serial port looks fine: # setserial /dev/ttyS0 /dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4 Do you suppose my serial port is just hosed? Do you know of some way to test it? I don't have any other serial devices around. As always, any/all suggestions greatly appreciated, and happy new year!
