The data sent to the IRDA/serial port hardware by the remote is not valid RS232 data, so it relys on the fringe behavior of the serial port hardware to generate interrupts on error conditions at a fast rate. If you get a chance, send us some mode2 output of the bad readings so we can learn more about it. You should be looking at mode2 output, it has to be consistent.
