While struggling to make lirc work with my bt878 card I figured out the
settings for lirc_gpio.
The card is called KW-BT878-FM, sold under the brandname Maxron (make by
Kingwin), pretty much identical to the Jetway series of cards. The settings
options lirc_gpio gpio_mask=0x7f00 gpio_lock_mask=0x4000 gpio_xor_mask=0
Please add to the config if possible. I've also discovered a really neat
way to easily get these settings for BT878 cards, assuming you have a spare
Windows machine to test with. The program uICE at http://www.mediatexx.com/
(30 day trial) will figure them out. After you run the hardware setup it
writes a log called tvcard.log. The IRMASK setting = gpio_mask, BTNUP_MASK
= gpio_lock_mask, BTNDWN_MASK = gpio_xor_mask. I guessed the soft_gap=0 and
sample_rate=12. Perhaps someone could see if they can duplicate this setup
testing for lirc.
I hope this makes it easier for other BT878 users to use lirc. On a
general note, thank you very much to the developers and contributers of
lirc. It's a great program and I'm working with it for my PVR project.
On the other hand, IMHO the lirc documentation is umm..shall I say less
than perfect. Please, take into account that many of us are not developers
and most have no clue what kernel modules are. I don't know why "make
install" does not automatically modify /etc/modules.conf. A newbie has a
terrible time figuring out how to get lirc working, and there's really no
sample /etc/modules.conf in the docs for them to duplicate. The options are
listed, but no explanation of how to put them into modules.conf. A startup
/etc/init.d/lirc file would be good too. Just my 2 cents and a hope that a
great tool becomes greater. Thanks again for lirc!

I can do this once this card is listed in the bttv driver.
