As an absolute beginner, I want first to make the RC (VISA IR3575) of my TV
set work with my portable IRDA port, then send commands to the TV set
Following word by word the instructions given in http://www.lirc.org,
<http://www.lirc.org> after having compiled LIRC-0.6.2 I was able to see
that it all was working by means of mode2 and xmode2, as lirc site suggests.
Then I used irrecord which, after asking me for the names of the buttons and
to press them accordingly, generated a lircd.conf file in raw mode.
And now the problems. I had a go at using irw.
I copied the lircd.conf file into /usr/local/etc, started lircd, and irw
without any specification. I saw that it all worked properly because in
/var/log/messages I only found "positive" messages, the irw client was
loaded correctly and the lirc_sir module was loaded in memory.
Nevertheless if I pressed any RC button already defined in lircd.conf, irw
didn't show any reaction, nothing appeared on the display.
Is there any error I made or step I missed?

Have you tried the patch to the SIR driver that Frank Przybylski posted
here about a month ago?
