is it possible to use lirc_serial together with the serial module on the
same ISA multiport card? With my current setup, lirc_serial alone works
great using the second port of the four port card, but I'd like to use
the other three serial ports on that card as normal serial ports.
When I load the serial module after lirc_serial, the serial ports don't
work ("I/O error" or "already in use"). And when I load the lirc_serial
after serial, lircd dies shortly later.
At the moment the serial module is configured like this:
alias char-major-61 lirc_serial
options lirc_serial irq=9 io=0x2a8
setserial /dev/ttyS4 uart 16450 port 0x2A0 irq 2 fourport
setserial /dev/ttyS6 uart 16450 port 0x2B0 irq 2 fourport
setserial /dev/ttyS7 uart 16450 port 0x2B8 irq 2 fourport
Is achieving that goal totally impossible, because the two modules can't
work together on the same hardware? At least they would have to agree
about how to use that "global interrupt register" (on 0x2BF here), or
the serial module should ignore the bit for the port used by lirc_serial.
The setserial man page tells something about "mask/match" combinations,
but I don't exactly understand what they are saying there (especially in
combination with the fourport flag). My serial card also has some
jumpers, but the manual is not very clear about how to use them.
So before I try getting it to work, I'd like to know whether it is
somehow possible (at least in theory).

If all ports share the same IRQ, the answer is no.
