I'm completely new (2 weeks) at MythTV, but have a mostly-working setup now.
I've hit a hurdle concerning controlling the TV without requiring 2 remotes.
My understanding is that I could either:
1) Use a learning remote to capture the required functions of the 2 originals.
2) Use irrecord and an ir transmitter to control the TV functions from my PVR.
Here's my setup:
A single box running both backend and frontend for MythTV (used KnoppMyth to
get it going). A WinTV PVR-350 PCI card (with PVR2 remote, the "grey" one).
A Panasonic PT-47WXC40 television with EUR7613Z40 remote.
Attempting 1) above with an RCA learning remote, I was able to control the TV
perfectly, but it could not successfully learn the needed Hauppauge remote
functions. Maybe other learning remotes would do better?
As for approach 2) above, I haven't purchased an IR transmitter yet, but I'm
hesitant because I couldn't get irrecord to recognize the TV's remote, with or
without the -f option. It failed on the first step, saying gap not found. So
I'm thinking that unless someone has already determined the lircd.conf for my
TV, I won't be able to transmit.
