For all interested, I have succeeded in getting the problem that I described
below resolved. I can detect irda packets from my cell phone and lirc data from
my RCA remote.
Unfortunately, the rca/TV_VCR lircd.conf file does not work. When I try to use
irrecord I can transmit about sixty dots before I get:
irrecord: could not find gap.
irrecord: gap not found, can't continue
I was able to get my remote to record a few times. Each time the recordings
forced raw mode. However, when I tried detecting the keypresses with irw, all
key presses registered as the same key. After fiddling with eps and aeps in
lircd.conf, key presses registered as keys other than this same key, but the
keys were still random and inaccurate.
After trying new batteries, and even after replacing the old batteries (and
eliminating ambient light) I cannot seem to with the remote to record. The
"gap not found" error has returned.
Any ideas on how to get this RCA remote correctly working? (Note: in the few
times that irrecord worked on the remote, it registered it as an RC-6, if this
