I've tried several remotes with LIRC and have had
problems with all. I was wondering if someone could
recommend a remote that would work in my situation.
I'm trying to control MythTV with a remote.
Eventually, I need to use an IRBlaster to control
my DirectTV receiver.
I have the Actisys 200L attached to a serial port.
Initially, I used the remote that came with the
Philips Sat Receiver. I used irrecord to build a
profile. Used the default VCR settings from the
This worked well, but, the remote has decided that
certain buttons won't work for a VCR, so I'm limited
what I can control in MythTV.
Decided to buy a new Universal Remote. Took the list
of remotes to Best Buys. Problem number 1, none of
the current generation of remotes are on the list.
I decided to buy a Phillips PM625S. My TV and the
Sat Receiver are Philips.
I can't get the remote to work reliably with the
Actisys 200L and Lirc. I've tried emulating several
brands of VCR. Using mode2, I can see I'm sending
signals AND not getting any background noise.
I use irrecord and can build a lircd.conf file, but
when I try to use it, most of the buttons I've
programmed don't work. The 3, 6, and 8 keys work
So, can anyone 1) recommend a brand of VCR or maybe
even a cable box ( I could use the extra keys ) that
I could program my remote to emulate and get better
results, or 2) recommend a universal remote that I
can currently buy that would work more reliably with

I'd recommend to change the receiver not the remote. Home-brew receivers
work much better than IrDA receivers.
