I've been researching this for a while with no luck.
Now that I can't search the archives, I'll have to ask
the question that's probably been asked before.
I have the Hauppauge WinTV with Radio card. It has
a built in IR receiver that requires loading the
lirc_i2c drivers. All is working with the Hauppauge
IR remote that came with it. But, that remote is
designed for a TV. I need more VCR functions for a
PVR ( MythTV ).
From searching this archive ( when it worked ) I
that I have to have a remote that supports the RC-5
protocals. Also, that the RC-5 protocal is common is
Phillips and Marantz remotes.
Now, my question. I have a Universal Remote,
the Sony RM-AV2100 that I can program to control
various devices, like a Phillips VCR. I've programed
the correct codes to get it to control a Phillips VCR
( there are 4 possible ) and tried it with irrecord,
but irrecord can't find the "gap" and quits. The
interesting thing is, my TV is a Phillips Magnavox.
When I change the remote to control the TV, irrecord
does detect it.
So, should a universal remote that can control a
VCR that uses the RC-5 protocals be able to work with
the Hauppauge WinTV card?

I've had absolutely no luck getting this to work at all and
couldn't find anyone else who has.
For the moment I'm still using the Hauppauge remote, but once I
start using MythTV more, I'm going to connect an IR receiver to
the IR header connector on the motherboard and use that with a
standard VCR remote instead.

Like the FAQ sais: you need a TV remote control that uses the RC-5
protocol. The TV card only seems to react to TV remote controls.
