For some days now I have been running into this error and did my
(unsuccessful) RTFM STFW on it:
"irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check
The lirc daemon is not running.
I am running Debian unstable, Lirc is version: 0.6.6-5 and irrecord is
The Debian package setup the devices /dev/lirc /dev/lircd and /dev/lircm
with the following permissions:
jj@...:~$ ls -la /dev/lirc*
prw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jul 7 12:29 /dev/lircd
prw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jul 7 12:29 /dev/lircm
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jul 7 12:29 .
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Jan 1 1970 ..
crw-rw---- 1 root root 61, 0 Jul 7 12:29 0
which shoudl suffice the in the FAQ advised permissions of 666 for
/dev/lirc (it is supposed to be a directory, right?).
I am using lirc_sir for IrDa hardware, the module installs fine, no
complaints (dmesg etc).
* Kernel: 2.4.20 with ck patchset
* cat /etc/serial.conf
/dev/ttyS3 uart 16550A port 0x02e8 irq 3 baud_base 115200 spd_vhi =20
* IrDa runs fine (mobile phone connection)
* Tried the devices:
/dev/lirc =3D> gave error as above
/dev/lircd =3D> programme runs but times out, no data
/dev/lircm =3D> '' '' '' '' '' '' ''
/dev/ttyS3 =3D> error as above
* fuser does not show that /dev/lirc is used
* in dmesg, I found this: irlap_state_ndm(), media busy!
I'd appreciate it a lot if someone could point me into the proper
direction to get irrecord to start recording!
Thanks a lot,
