lirc and ene_ir

Hi.
I'm really lost in configuring lirc. I have an Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 
installation, and *without* installing lirc first, it seems that the 
kernel can find my IR receiver without problems:

Now I wonder, why isn't this enough to get my receiver configured? I 
have a /dev/lirc0 a /dev/input*, everything seems fine, but instead no 
output seems to be generated from both devices. I guess I have to put 
somewhere a configuration for my remote, but where, if I don't have a 
lirc daemon that reads /etc/lirc/lircd.conf?
If I install lirc, what parameters should I put in hardware.conf?
By the way, the config for my remote should be 
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/sony/RM-883

I'm getting frustrated at this.

Hi,

I am trying to get my remote to work on a Ubuntu 11.10 64bit.  The 
remote came with my KWorld PCI Dual DVB-T tuner.

Sorry if these sound basic questions but I am stuck.

On the 'Dependencies' page it talks about LIRC's setup.sh, where should 
this be?  I have searched and cannot find it.   I have installed -
liblircclient0
lirc
mythbuntu-lirc-generator

It also says that I need svgalib and give a link to get it, that link 
has svgalib-1.4.3-bin.tar.gz and svgalib-1.4.3.tar.gz, also in Synaptic 
I can see svgalib-bin, which one of these do I need?
