I think I'm fine with the idea. I don't use uinput support much
myself, since I'm simply rewriting drivers to be input layer devices
natively though. ;)

I personally think the integration of the receiver/remotes into the input layer is a very good thing, but I now wonder whether the same press/release latency problem will happen with the in-kernel decoding approach. Will it?

Apart from your blog, I've been unable to find structured information online about the overall architecture that's being used for this effort, the required tools, or the future roadmap. Would you be so kind as to give me some pointers?

I wrote the Winbond (now Nuvoton) 8769L driver for "classic" LIRC, and perhaps I could find time for porting it to the new architecture, but I just don't know even where to begin looking in order to assess how much work it will be...
