Do you have kernel sources installed?

cd /usr/src
ls -la

Check and see if there is a symlink for linux pointing to another directory in /usr/src or if the directory linux exists in /usr/src

But there is nothing like /etc/lirc there in my filesystem. So, I wonder how
to setup my remote controller on my PC. I thought may me after installing
from source will give some luck but the compilation itself is failing.
