I have a freshly installed Ubuntu Server and have tried installing lirc both using 'apt-get install lirc' and a fresh 0.8.6 install from lirc.org.

I have a range of problems:

root@igolf:~# modprobe lirc_serial
FATAL: Error inserting lirc_serial (/lib/modules/2.6.31-16-generic-pae/kernel/ubuntu/lirc/lirc_serial/lirc_serial.ko): Device or resource busy

root@igolf:~# lircd --nodaemon --device=/dev/ttyS1
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: lircd(default) ready, using /var/run/lirc/lircd
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: accepted new client on /var/run/lirc/lircd
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: could not get hardware features
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: this device driver does not support the LIRC ioctl
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: major number of /dev/ttyS1 is 4
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: LIRC major number is 61
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: check if /dev/ttyS1 is a LIRC device
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: Failed to initialize hardware
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: error processing command: SEND_ONCE LG Power
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: hardware does not support sending
lircd-0.8.6[1826]: removed client

I am using a serial transceiver from IguanaWorks which works flawlessly with WinLirc.

Does anyone have some hints as to here to start? :-)
