Sorry, I've got a couple of plates spinning for release and have been just skimming here for a couple of weeks. Just to be completely clear then, the edited HOWTO might look a bit like (untested): > everything is performed as root. > > (1) Identify the exact version of your running kernel > uname -a > Linux helsinki 2.6.11-1-686 #1 Sun Apr 3 06:20:48 EDT 2005 i686 GNU/Linux > > (2) Install the correct kernel headers for your kernel and... > ... get your system into a state where building kernel modules > from source is possible. > > apt-get update > apt-get install build-essential > apt-get install kernel-headers-2.6.11-1-686 (Adjust the version as per > result of step 3) > > (2a) Get the libraries required for building the linuxwacom tools. > (This list was taking from Steve Wallace's How-To). > > apt-get install libncurses5-dev tcl8.4-dev tk8.4-dev libgtk2.0-dev > libx11-dev sidenote: You'll still need some of these with the present package, the next one should have the tools split out of the kernel source and you won't need any of this lot yourself anymore. > (3) Install the linuxwacom module-source and util packages apt-get install wacom-tools wacom-kernel-source (and follow the 'bouncing ball') > (4) Now its time to install your new kernel modules. dpkg -i /usr/src/modules/wacom-kernel-modules-<your version>.deb (step 3 will tell you about this too) > (5) Manually install the correct wacom_drv.o for your version of X11 and > kernel. > > cp prebuilt/wacom_drv.o_4.3k2.6 /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/wacom_drv.o Shouldn't need this for Graphire3 (on Debian unstable/testing or later), but intuos and others may benefit still. > (6) You now need to configure X as described here; > <http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/howto/x11> This seems to be where you tripped up the first time. If you do all the above, you should have /dev/input/wacom for the first tablet you attach. Feel free to flesh this out anywhere I missed something, but mostly I'm trying to eliminate as many of these steps as I can as I find the time. A couple are still hard to dodge. Ron |
