I've been running into a number of problems trying to install my graphire3 pad 1. I am running kernel 2.4.25-pre6, but when I try to compile the wacom.o driver, it ends up in the 2.4 directory not the 2.4.22 directory. 2. When I insmod the driver and then look in /var/log/messages, it is listed as the 0.5 driver not 0.6 - (I did download 0.6.0) 3. When I get all the drivers loaded and plug in the pad, it gets recognized as a wacom pad, but seems to attached to the hid driver. 4. Probably because of 3, the only file under /dev/input/ is mice. There is no event or mouse files 5. When I try to compile all of the drivers in the wacom directory, the make process fails with error 2 and notes like not enough parameters and not being able to find 'application' 'type' 'usage' 'input' etc. Any ideas where I start to untangle this mess? So it's probably not too hard for you to recompile it. > [wrong driver without graphire3 support gets loaded] > Any ideas where I start to untangle this mess? Backup your kernel sourcetree, locate all the .c files present in linuxwacom-0.6.0/src/<version>/ in your kernel and replace them with the new version. Recompile the kernel the usual way. bye, Martin |

Why are you using a kernel with such a strange version? ;) Sorry, That's my fault, I'll make up a more sophisticated regexp ;) |

I've been working with installing Gentoo on my laptop. There have been too many elements of my hardware that won't run on 2.6 yet (though they are getting close) and the vanilla sources lacked the patches for acpi (power management) so I tried the gentoo sources (2.4.22) but ndiswrapper to run my wireless card required at least 2.4.23 and so I moved to the gs sources which were at 2.4.25-pre6 at the time. All in all it has worked well, accept my laptop is using new enough that it seems everything in Linux is still in development for it and needs patching. But I'm getting close. I've had to recompile a few times now so I am getting the hang of it. So, Martin, thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try tomorrow. A few too many meetings today. Hi there... Has anyone been able to use a *serial* graphire with 2.6 series kernel? I think there is somehow a lack of information in the linuxwacom project web page for serial devices (I realise that this is quite normal, as most modern devices are USB, but...). I tried the precompiled wacom_drv.o that comes with version 0.6, but didn't work at all... I'm using Debian, with XFree86 4.2.1-12.1 and kernel 2.4.21 and 2.6.2 No problems with 2.4.21 but no working at all with 2.6 Did anyone made this serial tablet work? May be I forgot some kernel options, but I don't think so... Thanks in advance. -Quercus- -- Yo uso Software Libre Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (Woody) Kernel 2.4.21 OpenPGP id: 700F3CC6 Mi weblog :: http://quercus.nosomos.org |

That's odd. AFAIK, the only thing that XFree86 serial Wacom tablet drivers need from the kernel is generic serial port support. The kernel doesn't need to care *what* is attached to the serial port. That's why serial Wacom tablets work on both Linux and FreeBSD. > I tried the precompiled wacom_drv.o that comes with > version 0.6, but > didn't work at all... In what directory did you put wacom_drv.o? Also, could you post your XF86Config file? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Get better spam protection with Yahoo! May be I could check somehow that serial port is properly working in 2.6? >>I tried the precompiled wacom_drv.o that comes with >>version 0.6, but >>didn't work at all... > > In what directory did you put wacom_drv.o? in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/ the same place where it has always been. Thanks for your help (the tablet is the only thing that keeps me in 2.4 kernels.) -Quercus- -- Yo uso Software Libre Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (Woody) Kernel 2.4.21 OpenPGP id: 700F3CC6 Mi weblog :: http://quercus.nosomos.org |
