I was trying to get a new Intuos CTH-480 working on 12.04...followed all of the instructions. Everything went smoothly up to 'make install' for xf86-input-wacom. Tried to log out and got...

could not write bytes: Broken pipe

Power cycled and now that's all I can get! I see the Ubuntu screen briefly on boot but then the same message:

could not write bytes: Broken pipe

Press the power button and again see the Ubuntu screen briefly before shut down.

Can anyone please tell me how to undo the changes I have made by installing input-wacom-0.20.0 and xf86-input-wacom-0.23.0?

I've been using Linux on servers for nearly 20 years and now the first time I try building something like this...POW!

I was able to boot into recovery mode and get to a command prompt. I tried the procedure at the end of this thread (poking around in the dark here) but the problem remains:

If anyone knows how I can recover, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll have to re-install from scratch and find a Windows machine to use my tablet.
