Cool. I just tested the line and everything seems OK. It even
works when I run the daemon as a non-root user.

Right on!  That's good news.  On a scale of 1-10 how hard would you say the
install on Debian is?

If you know Debian and how to compile a kernel, I would say 3.
If you only know Red Hat and have never compiled a kernel and 
are not comfortable with the shell, I would say 9. :)
