'aconnect -io' will tell you the right ALSA seq ID. There's still no MIDI 
support yet in JACK AFAIK.

Make sure you run jackd and LS as the same user (either root or with 
capability enabled kernel as ordinary user).

Well, that sounds more like you have supplied the wrong path for that gig 
file.
