Hey Mark,
I've been on this list for a few months as well and
noticed it's kind of died down. Not sure what's up with that - it was
very active around November, iirc. There has been some discussion about
Swami, but I think the real hope for sampling under Linux might be XAP
(discussed extensively on linux-audio-dev.) I also use Gigasampler a
bit and seeing as I'd like to dump Windoze altogether I'm hoping for a
way to use my libraries in Linux (like my really nifty Akai-format
prepared piano CD...)
