Attached is a patch to resolve this issue.
LinuxSampler LV2 state is still not archivable, and multi-file .gig will
still not work, but SFZ should save and restore correctly at least.
It would perhaps be a good idea to move this fix lower to the SFZ engine
so loading from a symbolic link path always works.
Patch also available online here:

Long story short, SFZ (or any multi-file format) in LV2 doesn't work
across saves.
Sorry, I'll get around to it :)

Hello!
I'm using the LV2-plugin for Linuxsampler alot with ardour (3, svn-version)
and an issue i've been having for quite a while now is that it does not
reload the sample-files it should correctly upon session startup.
For example, the terminal displays this when loading a session:
Scheduling
'/home/zth/MUSIK/WhatProjekt/simpleBeat/plugins/401/state8/DecayBass.sfz'
(Index=0) to be loaded in background (if not loaded yet).
Loading sfz instrument
('/home/zth/MUSIK/WhatProjekt/simpleBeat/plugins/401/state8/DecayBass.sfz',0)...OK
Caching initial samples...sfz::Engine error: Failed to load instrument,
cause:
/home/zth/MUSIK/WhatProjekt/simpleBeat/plugins/401/state8/DecayBass.wav:
Can't get sample info: System error : No such file or directory.
...where the correct path to the sfz (and wavs) is a completely other path.
So what I need to do upon each startup is manually reloading each
LS-channel to be used with ardour, via for example qsampler.
I remember this working "like it should" a while back (a couple of months),
so I was thinking I should alert you on this issue =) Please let me know if
I can assist in some other way in debugging etc!
Thanks in advanced!

Your build environment being different to that of Andreas' I would imagine that you would need some extra flags. IIRC, on 10.5.8 with Xcode-3.1.4 and looking at your compilation errors: in addition to "- framework CoreAudio" you also need "-framework CoreMIDI -framework CoreFoundation" . > Thanks in advance, > Maurizio > > -- > È difficile avere una convinzione precisa quando si parla delle > ragioni del cuore. - "Sostiene Pereira", Antonio Tabucchi "It is difficult to (precisely) convince when one speaks with a raging heart" ? Hello, I'm trying to compile linuxsampler on OS X 10.5.8, by command line rather than Xcode (I'm not used to it). So far I was able to build and install liblscp and libgig, but I had problems with linuxsampler. After a couple of issues (the last one being adding JACK_CFLAGS="-DHAVE_JACK_MIDI_GET_EVENT_COUNT" to get the compilation process going on) I'm stuck with an LD problem. Here you can see the latest output of make: http://pastebin.com/mxNs2gVR I asked on the #linuxsampler channel on freenode and they told me that maybe I'm missing the ldflags ("-framework Coreaudio" and so on) in the makefile for liblinuxsampler. I'm not an expert, so I really don't know how to fix this issue. FYI I'm using revision 2356. Can anybody help me with that? If the sampler was released under GPL3 without the infamous commercial exception, every commercial software and hardware product could use the sampler without any enforcement to make their sources public or ask for permssions or whatsoever. The network API case is neither covered by GPL2 nor by GPL3 unfortunately. We have been in touch with the FSF quite some times, so this has been clearified. CU Christian |

Hello, can you change your license to GPL version 3 and drop the GPLv2 exception? Version 3 disallows to use the open software in a closed hardware system so Linuxsampler would be safe from commercial rip-offs. I assume that is the caution that led to the GPL2 exception. Nils |

I got the code off-list. It turned out that the problem was specific to OS X Lion (and probably newer versions), and that Reaper on Lion also crashed when the plugin was unloaded. I've committed a fix for this now. The Mac specific fix in InstrumentManagerThread was: a) not needed anymore in Lion, b) causing crashes in Lion, so I added an OS version check. /Andreas |

A single sample frame takes three bytes instead of four. So, support for 16 bit flac files should be very easy to do. 24 bit is a bit harder, SampleFile::Read has to transform the 32 bit integers to 24 bit in the buffer. Another option is to use 32 bit buffers and add support for that in Synthesize::GetSample. /Andreas |

Hi. I was wondering how hard it would be to add flac import support for the sfz engine. I looked into src/engines/common/SampleFile.cpp. The thing I find most confusing there is the non-local interaction with Synthesize::GetSample for 24 bit samples (according to a comment there). Can somebody who understands this comment on whether or not it is tricky? Also, would it be simpler to use sf_readf_ only, rather than sf_read_raw for wav and sf_readf_ for others? Maybe this little code section could be tidied up and we could get more import formats along the way? If I understand these issues, I could probably make a simple patch that would add flac support (and maybe others?). Please let me know if I am missing something here. Thanks. -- G. Jungman |

I have written a tiny patch that allows off_by to trigger release of samples on the *same key* even within the same group. The result is a more consistent interpretation of the SFZ API. For example, complex ride patterns will not result in tens/100's of voices at the same time. This results in a more realistic sound, less CPU usage, less voice usage, and volume levels don't go through the roof.

Setting up SFZs to take advantage of the new feature
====================================================
It works like this:
For the purpose of an example, our group number will be 001. Of course, it can be any integer.
1) Groups trigger groups.
// Closed Hats on key 1, switched via MIDICC
<group> key=1 group=001 off_by=001 locc23=64 hicc23=127
<region> HatClosed.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5
<region> HatClosed2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6
// Semi Open Hats on key 1, switched via MIDICC
<group> key=1 group=001 off_by=001 locc23=1 hicc23=63
<region> HatSemiOpen.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5
<region> HatSemiOpen2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6
// Hi Hat Foot on key 2
<group> key=2 group=001 off_by=001
<region> HiHatFoot.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5
<region> HiHatFoot2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6
* Regions within a group will not trigger release. Only if groups is seperate.
2) Regions trigger regions.
// Closed Hats on key 1, switched via MIDICC
<group> key=1 locc23=64 hicc23=127
<region> HatClosed.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5 group=001 off_by=001
<region> HatClosed2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6 group=001 off_by=001
// Semi Open Hats on key 1, switched via MIDICC
<group> key=1 locc23=1 hicc23=63
<region> HatSemiOpen.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5 group=001 off_by=001
<region> HatSemiOpen2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6 group=001 off_by=001
// Hi Hat Foot on key 2
<group> key=2
<region> HiHatFoot.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5 group=001 off_by=001
<region> HiHatFoot2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6 group=001 off_by=001
3) You can define a "ghost trigger" <group> with group=NNN, and any <region> or <group> on those keys with the off_by=NNN will have their releases triggered.
// Closed Hats on key 1, switched via MIDICC
<group> key=1 group=001 off_by=002 locc23=64 hicc23=127
<region> HatClosed.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5
<region> HatClosed2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6
// Semi Open Hats on key 1, switched via MIDICC
<group> key=1 group=001 off_by=002 locc23=1 hicc23=63
<region> HatSemiOpen.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5
<region> HatSemiOpen2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6
// Hi Hat Foot on key 2
<group> key=2 group=001 off_by=002
<region> HiHatFoot.wav lorand=0 hirand=0.5
<region> HiHatFoot2.wav lorand=0.5 hirand=0.6
// ghost trigger
<group> end=-1 sample=samples\releaseTrigger_koala_silent_1.wav group=002
<region> key=1
<region> key=2

I saw that lv2-1.0.0 was released so I thought I'd tried to see if state
restoration of multi-part SFZ and GIG files worked with the linuxsampler
plugin and ardour3.
Using AVLinux 5.0.3 I did this:
Compiled and installed all of these:
lv2-1.0.0.tar.bz2, serd-0.14.0.tar.bz2, sord-0.8.0.tar.bz2
sratom-0.2.0.tar.bz2, lilv-0.14.2.tar.bz2, suil-0.6.0.tar.bz2
Compiled SVN 2342 of of libgig, liblscp, linuxsampler and SVN 12043 of
ardour3.
However, I still find multi-file SFZ, GIG files are not restored in saved
sessions, just as before. For example I see ardour3 terminal output like
this:
Scheduling
'/mdkhome/sound/recording/ardour3/test/plugins/127/state1/SalamanderGrandV3_41_24.sfz'
(Index=0) to be loaded in background (if not loaded yet).
Loading sfz file
'/mdkhome/sound/recording/ardour3/test/plugins/127/state1/SalamanderGrandV3_41_24.sfz'...OK
Loading sfz instrument
('/mdkhome/sound/recording/ardour3/test/plugins/127/state1/SalamanderGrandV3_41_24.sfz',0)...OK
Caching initial samples...sfz::Engine error: Failed to load
instrument, cause:
/mdkhome/sound/recording/ardour3/test/plugins/127/state1/41khz24bit/A0v1.wav:
Can't get sample info: System error : No such file or directory.
So either:
1) This functionality has not yet been implemented.
2) I do not know how to build everything to get the unfunctionality
Comments, suggestions welcome on whether there restoration of
multi-file SFZ, GIG files is possible with linuxsampler and ardour3.
Thanks, Edward Diehl
