Hi, It's been a while since I've done any serious testing of LS, and since I'm testing a whole bunch of unreleased Pro Tools plugins this weekend anyway (amazing what a person will do to get a years free use of $10,000 worth of plugins, isn't it?) ;-) so I decided to combine the work and use LS in the flow. I hadn't tested LS seriously since MIDI velocity support was added, so I'm starting with that. The good news is that it works. The semi-bad news is that overall volumes are much, much lower. A peak of -6db in GSt will come out about -18db in LS. I'm sending a screen shot of the Pro Tools session with PAZ doing a frequency response curve to Christian and Benno directly. If anyone else needs a copy let me know. It's about 350K. Cheers, Mark |

Hi all, Finally I've made it to build linuxsampler again. If you remember I was having clueless trouble with autocrap ;) Now it sufficed to remove some files and all went't fine. My script to build linuxsampler from CVS is now just the following: ---BOF: linuxsampler_cvs_install.sh --- #!bin/sh cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/home/schropp/linuxsampler co linuxsampler cd linuxsampler || exit 1 [ -f acconfig.h ] && rm -f acconfig.h [ -d autom4te.cache ] && rm -rf autom4te.cache make -f Makefile.cvs ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-optimize make || exit 2 su -c "make install" ---EOF: linuxsampler_cvs_install.sh --- Now everything is back on track :) Cheers. -- rncbc aka Rui Nuno Capela rn...@rn... |

(I hope!) ;-) On my suse9 box it built to run a couple of weeks ago, 28-Nov to be more precise. Right now, is the only binary I have to play. I even have an rpm made with checkinstall (http://www.rncbc.org/ardour_pt/) just in case ;) -- rncbc aka Rui Nuno Capela rn...@rn... |

The problem is the following (from your sent log): checking Alsa version... 0.0.0 Seems the Alsa version check I wrote recently failed on your machine (see configure.in). Maybe you can figure out what the problem is. If not or if you simply don't have the patience for it, just set your Alsa version in config.h (line 14 -20): /* Define to the major version number of your Alsa installation. */ #define ALSA_MAJOR 1 /* Define to the minor version number of your Alsa installation. */ #define ALSA_MINOR 0 /* Define to the subminor version number of your Alsa installation. */ #define ALSA_SUBMINOR 0 > Please note that, with more recent autoconf-2.5x and automake-1.7 stuff > which is also available here as default, the autoconf preprocessing fails > with the following error: > > Can't locate object method "path" via package "Autom4te::Request" at > /usr/bin/autom4te-2.5x line 81. Hi all, While having trouble with some autocrapola and figured out a way to get into make, my efforts to build linuxsampler from cvs have been doomed to failure. I remember to make it right a couple of weeks ago. See attachement for the latest output error. Please note that, with more recent autoconf-2.5x and automake-1.7 stuff which is also available here as default, the autoconf preprocessing fails with the following error: Can't locate object method "path" via package "Autom4te::Request" at /usr/bin/autom4te-2.5x line 81. Same with autoreconf. The "offended" machine is my laptop where Mandrake 9.2 is installed. Any suggestions? Seeya. -- rncbc aka Rui Nuno Capela rn...@rn... |

No problem, we are often on irc.freenode.org (#linuxsampler and #lad). I will definitely be there on sunday. So we can discuss details regarding the GUI there if you'll find the time. Anyway, our long term plan is to have several GUIs e.g. ncurses, Gtk, or even Java. So if anybody likes to write a GUI frontend based on another library or language, be also invited to participate! Of course we also have a lot of other tasks not related to the GUI, so if anybody likes to participate in another area, just let us know! > Hope to hear from you all. And I'm glad to welcome you! Great. Works fine. Thanks!

Ask and you received, didn't you! If anyone wants to know things about
what GSt have available through it's GUI. What works well and what
doesn't (IMO) etc, then I Can help with that.

You forgot line 163:
bool AudioIO::HardwareParametersSupported(uint channels, int samplerate, uint
numfragments, uint fragmentsize) {
pcm_name = "hw:0,0";
...
Change that too and it will automatically fall back to plughw.

Sure, but unfortunately I'm very busy at the moment and I think that will last
til next week friday; have to take care of lot of projects at university.
Maybe kick Benno's ass that he should do something, but again; I'm sure you
can do such small and easy things too and help us to take some of our work
load.
Benno: what is the event system doing? Anything done in that area?
Btw: is nobody here on the list who wants to participate actively in the
project? There are a lot of open tasks in all kind of areas and with the end
of this year we need to start with a GUI.
Anyway, I'm still hopeful that we can finish complete gig support this year...

Hi, I changed the order of my sound cards. Now the onboard sound chip is #1 and the HDSP 9652 is #2. I tried running LinuxSampler with the onboard chip and it works but I haven't managed to get it working yet with the HDSP. I tried changing the two entries on lines 43 and 49 of audioio.cpp from hw:0,0 and plughw:0,0 to hw:1,0 and plughw:1,0, but when I try and run I get the following message: bash-2.05b$ linuxsampler --numfragments 2 --gig /mnt/samples/Gigs/Pianos/Bardstown\ Audio/The\ Bosendorfer\ Imperial\ Grand\ Version\ 2.2.gig Initializing audio output...Error snd_pcm_hw_params_set_access: Invalid argument. bash-2.05b$ Any ideas what I can do to get this working in the short term? I think it would be very helpful to get the basic options to choose the card, as well as the MIDI connection we've talked about, on the command line. Thanks, Mark |

At the moment testing by ear is probably best - there will be things like frequency drift between the two fiters that are most easily tested the old fashioned way :) - Steve |

When this code problem gets worked out and I can build LS again, and presuming the filters get included and function, I'll be happy to take some measurements comparing the two. If you have ideas about what to measure, or how to measure it to be of more value to you, drop me a note. Thanks much, Mark |

Its just 2 .h files, they can be got from http://plugin.org.uk/src/util/biquad.h (generic biquad implementation) http://plugin.org.uk/src/util/ls_filter.h (the stuff to emulate GS) Theres a usage exmaple in http://plugin.org.uk/src/ls_filter_1908.xml, but it should be pretty obvious. It does LP, BP and HP, but the BP and HP responses are just guesses - but if the LP is right, they proabably will be too. It might not be that close to GS yet, but I've left it open to tuning. - Steve |

Any headway being made with the code and this uint problem? I cannot build LS anymore. - Mark On Wed, 2003-12-03 at 11:32, Mark Knecht wrote: > On Wed, 2003-12-03 at 02:05, Christian Schoenebeck wrote: > > > g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -pedantic -g -O2 -c -o audioio.o > > > `test -f 'audioio.cpp' || echo './'`audioio.cpp > > > audioio.cpp: In member function `int AudioIO::Initialize(unsigned int, > > > unsigned > > > int, unsigned int, unsigned int)': > > > audioio.cpp:89: error: invalid conversion from `uint' to `unsigned int*' > > > > Nothing changed in audioio.cpp since I implemented automatic plughw fallback > > (2003-11-21) and that version worked AFAIK for you. In both cases I deleted the existing directory and checked out 100% new code. Today it fails the same way. FYI - life here is Gentoo, which means upgrades to gcc far more often than non-Gentoo platforms. In all likelihood I've had a gcc update since I last built the code. Have you looked at the offending line? I don't know a 'uint' from an unsigned int. They sound similar, but possibly not identical? Aah!!!! I bet I get it! I've updated Alsa to 1.0.0rc1. The offending line looks like it's calling some Alsa function to talk to my card? Have the Alsa folks pulled a switcheroo on us here??????? Anyway, I still cannot build as of 11:30AM California time.
